Reflections by the media on the Postoloprty massacre from 1990
Hegerová, Lenka ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Dimitrov, Michal (referee)
The main topic of this bachelor thesis is the so-called Postoloprty massacre and its reflection by selected Czech media after 1990. The Postoloprty Massacre is one of the greatest post-war excesses committed by the Czechs against the expelled Germans. Until the fall of the communist regime in 1989, the case was a taboo, much like other crimes committed against Germans during the expulsion. Although this changed in historiography after 1990, especially thanks to the publications of Tomáš Staňek, the path to coming to terms with this tragic event took much longer in the region where the massacre took place. A memorial plaque to the victims, which had been requested by associations and individuals since 2003, was erected seven years later. The aim of my thesis is to use discursive analysis to find out how the media reported on the Postoloprty

Černá, Jana ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Sekera, Martin (referee)
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to characterize how the media reflection of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings, their circumstances and consequences, changed within years 1945-2010 in the Czechoslovak and Czech media. While assessing the scale of the change, the political context is taken in mind. The work deals with accuracy, timeliness and potential bias of articles from the daily newspapers Rudé právo, Svobodné slovo and Lidová demokracie; later replacing these with Právo, Mladá fronta Dnes and Lidové noviny. It assesses relevant articles published in the chosen dailies in the period between 22nd July and 30th August 1945 (i.e. two weeks before and three weeks after the first attack to provide the necessary context) and within 1st to 14th August of each tenth anniversary, i.e. in years 1955, 1965, 1975, 1985, 1995, 2005 and to be most current, also in 2010. The thesis includes the list of all analysed articles. In the analysis attention was also given to the increase or decline in number of the news reports. To enable the comparison of the actual events with their media image, a historical chapter precedes the analysis as such. A chapter on the media reflection in 1945 follows, as well as the one that deals with the period of 1955-1985. The changes in the Czech media concerning...
Media Imagine of Transformation of Elite after 1989: Moral Havel and Technocrat Klaus
Loudová, Barbora ; Just, Petr (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
Czechoslovak society underwent a fundamental change in 1989, in which a certain portion of society, previously restricted from official intervention in politics, took crucial part. Even though this part of society (the dissent) was before 1989 restricted from participation in politics, it had been doing so. However, in illegal ways at that time, for which had been the involved often persecuted. This group of dissidents later contributed to the revolutionary changes, which is the source of certain mythology that began to appear in connection with them. During 1990s their influence decreased, and the dissent's political elite was gradually replaced by a new right- wing elite, promising economic reform and rapid transformation. The idealistic conception of politics was replaced by the pragmatic one and completely different and ambitious personalities came to the foreground. The new characters did not come from the background of fight against totalitarianism, yet they quickly gained political skills. This transformation of elites in Czech society can be expressed via comparison of Václav Havel and Václav Klaus, as both of them were among the main initiators of domestic politics. Therefore, this diploma thesis is focused on them and their media portrayal. The media reflect everyday reality and pose as...

Direct elections? Media reflection of female candidates for president in 2013
Vránová, Hana ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Štechová, Markéta (referee)
The aim of this work is to critically look at how the female presidential candidates in 2013 were reflected in the Czech press and assess whether that somehow differed from the way the male candidates were presented. Presidential elections were a milestone in the history of the Czech Republic, when the head of state was elected directly by the citizens. We pose a question whether this election was also "direct" and equal in the reflection of the media, or underlined gender stereotypes. The axis of the work is the display of gender in the media, especially in relation to women in high-ranking positions in politics or female politicians aspiring for them. This reflection is viewed through the lens of feminist media criticism. The theoretical part is complemented by an introduction to political communication, Czech and international studies and the current situation of women in Czech politics. Then I will present the paper's methodology. In the analytical part, by using quantitative content analysis I will focus on the presentation of female and male candidates in five Czech newspapers. There will also be a qualitative analysis of selected articles interesting from a gender perspective. Key words Female president, president, elections, gender, gender stereotypes, feminism, media, media reflection

The final chapters focus on the analysis of the above-mentioned newspapers from the time of the elections to the Federal Assembly in 1992 and examine reference methods relating to the issue of the Czech- Slovak misunderstanding.
